I recently came across a very interesting analogy called "Crab (s) in a barrel" or sometimes it is called as Crab (s) in a bucket.
Simply means - If I can't have it. Neither can you (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab_mentality) or anything out of the norm is not allowed. To explain - when a crab (singular) is in a bucket, it crawls upwards and "somehow" it pushes itself to freedom. When crabs (plural) are put in a barrel and one of them tries to free itself; other crabs pull it down —> in an extreme sense after a point all the crabs gang up against this one crab to take him down. In some cases, they even end up breaking its limbs (or whatever it is technically called)
This analogy is directly applicable to us. There are so many times we want to start a new thing, have a new life - be it career or art or stand up against BS - very quickly all the crabs gang up & start attacking from all sides. Have you experienced this? Do you know who these crabs are? In most cases it is people very close to us - friends, family, acquittances & they do it for various reasons - fear, care, jealousy, ego, safety etc. They will find every reason why the "new" will not work which could impact our confidence
Lets just continue to break the rules legally :). We will eventually find people who will tag along, push us to limits to excel (even via criticism), appreciate what we do & become part of our journey - really an extended self in that sense.
